NASSAU, Bahamas — The Bahamas is moving forward with plans for a new Government Digital Payment System, as the Ministry of Finance and Central Bank of The Bahamas continue seeking technology providers for the national project.

The Central Bank issued a request for proposals covering the design, supply, implementation and ongoing support of a government digital payment solution. The latest amendment to the procurement process was published on September 8, 2026.

The proposed system is expected to focus on digital payments, interoperability, scalability, usability and integration with existing government systems and third-party applications.

Qualified bidders are required to demonstrate experience delivering comparable payment technology and the ability to manage implementation risks and ongoing support. Proposals are due by September 30, 2026, at 5 p.m. EDT.

The project forms part of the wider modernization of government services in The Bahamas, where digital systems are increasingly being used to improve how citizens and businesses interact with public institutions.

The development could have implications for government payments, digital financial services, fintech providers and the wider technology sector, as the country continues expanding its digital infrastructure.
