National security is set to remain at the centre of Trinidad and Tobago’s political debate as Parliament prepares for a public meeting of its Committee on National Security on September 3.

The Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago lists the committee meeting as taking place at 1:15 p.m. on September 3, with part of the proceedings open to the public.

The meeting comes after months of political debate surrounding the Government’s use of emergency powers. In June, the Government moved to extend the State of Emergency, while Opposition Leader Penelope Beckles criticised the continued extension and said the Opposition would not support it.
