Trinidad and Tobago is facing fresh public-safety concerns after disorder at an Independence Day breakfast fete in Chaguaramas prompted a strong response from Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar.

Reports from the Trinidad and Tobago Guardian said police arrested a man following incidents at the FOC: The Awakening breakfast party, while the Prime Minister publicly condemned what she described as lawless behaviour by some event patrons.

The incident occurred as Trinidad and Tobago marked Independence Day celebrations on September 1, with major public events and festivities taking place across the country.

The latest disturbance has renewed attention on public safety, crowd behaviour and security arrangements at large entertainment events. Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar urged people who cannot behave responsibly to stay away from public gatherings so law-abiding citizens can enjoy national celebrations safely.

The development comes while Trinidad and Tobago continues to operate under heightened security conditions following the extension of the nationwide State of Emergency earlier this year.

Authorities are expected to continue monitoring large gatherings as the country moves beyond the Independence Day holiday period.
