Suriname is putting artificial intelligence in the spotlight as technology experts, business leaders and policymakers gather in Paramaribo for the country’s first business-focused AI Summit.
The Suriname AI Summit 2026 (SAIS26) is being held on October 27 and 28 at the Torarica Ballroom. Organised by Qualogy Caribbean, the event is designed to help local organisations move beyond experimenting with AI and begin identifying practical ways to use the technology in their operations.
Discussions focus on how AI can improve productivity, support decision-making and create new business opportunities. Participants are also examining the risks associated with adoption, including data security, privacy, cybercrime, ethical use and organisational accountability.
The summit features international and regional specialists, including Google Cloud’s AI Customer Engineering lead Rokesh Jankie, Qualogy Nederland’s AI lead Rajeev Kalloe and AI strategist Elly Kort. Sessions include presentations, panel discussions and practical workshops designed to connect technology possibilities with the needs of Surinamese businesses.
The event is being held alongside the tenth and final edition of the Social Media Conference Suriname in its current format. Organisers say the conference is being restructured because digital innovation now reaches far beyond social media into business strategy, governance and technology management.
For Suriname, the challenge is no longer simply gaining access to AI tools it is learning how to use them safely and effectively. Businesses will need skilled employees, clear internal policies and stronger cybersecurity practices to turn experimentation into measurable results.
The summit places AI adoption and responsible digital transformation firmly on the national agenda, although specific new government policies or investment commitments have not been announced as part of the event information reviewed.
