Barbadian batting talent Kevin Wickham is on the verge of a major career breakthrough after earning his first selection to the West Indies Test squad for the upcoming tour of Bangladesh.
The 23-year-old was named in the 15-member squad following a remarkable campaign in the West Indies Championship, where he scored 393 runs at an average of 78.60. His outstanding run included three consecutive centuries of 105, 153 and an unbeaten 108.
Wickham’s selection gives him an opportunity to make his maiden Test appearance for the West Indies as the regional side prepares for two matches in Bangladesh. The first Test is scheduled to begin on October 28, with the second starting on November 5.
The squad will be led by captain Roston Chase, with Jomel Warrican serving as vice-captain. Experienced Barbadian fast bowler Kemar Roach has also been selected, adding another familiar name from Barbados to the touring team.
Wickham’s call-up follows a period of consistent run-scoring in regional cricket and places him among the players being considered for the next stage of West Indies Test cricket. His performance in the championship has strengthened his case for an opportunity at the international level.
For Barbados cricket supporters, the selection is a major milestone for one of the island’s emerging batsmen. Wickham will now look to turn his first Test squad opportunity into an international debut during the Bangladesh series.
