Cuba has unveiled its 24-player squad for the 2026 WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup, setting its sights on a historic medal run when the international tournament begins in Nicaragua next month.

The Cuban Baseball and Softball Federation announced the roster on October 27, selecting the players from an earlier 45-man preliminary group. The team will be managed by Guillermo Carmona and is scheduled to travel to Nicaragua on November 4.

Cuba opens its Group B campaign against South Korea on November 6, followed by matches against South Africa, Japan, Venezuela and Great Britain. The group stage runs through November 10, with the top three teams advancing to the Super Round.

The roster includes young talents from several Cuban baseball provinces, including infielders Juan Manuel Pérez Díaz and Jonathan Ramón Moreno Medero, alongside a pitching group of 11 players. Moreno and pitcher Randy Román Martínez Pacheco are among those who have played in Japanese professional baseball’s minor-league system.

The tournament presents a significant challenge. Cuba has never won a medal at the U-23 Baseball World Cup, with its best result being fourth place in 2021. Japan, one of Cuba’s Group B opponents, has been among the dominant teams in the competition.

Cuba’s immediate goal will be to finish among the group’s top three and secure a place in the Super Round. The squad’s performance in Nicaragua will be closely watched by Cuban baseball supporters as the country looks to turn its rich baseball tradition into success at the U-23 international level.
