PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — Haiti is taking another step toward financial technology modernization through a new initiative designed to upgrade banking infrastructure across a network of more than 40 credit unions.
Announced on October 26, 2026, the project brings together financial technology provider Mbanq, Haitian technology partner TekNsol and Fédération des Caisses Populaires Haïtiennes Le Levier, a national cooperative network representing credit unions across the country.
The initial phase will introduce modern core banking capabilities, including digital member onboarding, savings and current account management, loan administration, transfers between member accounts and check processing.
The initiative could help participating credit unions improve operational efficiency and lay the groundwork for expanded digital financial services. Future phases are expected to introduce mobile banking, additional payment options and international payment services.
Credit unions play an important role in serving communities and businesses that depend on accessible financial services. Modernizing their technology could help participating institutions deliver more convenient services while strengthening the digital foundations of Haiti's cooperative financial sector.
However, the benefits will depend on implementation, reliable connectivity, cybersecurity and customers' ability to access digital services.
The project represents a notable development in Haiti's fintech landscape, with the potential to expand digital banking capabilities across a network of community-based financial institutions.
